We are excited to announce that Namrata (Nami) Maraj is the new National Director & Chief Financial Officer at Windmill Microlending. Nami joins the executive team of Windmill and is responsible for managing both the finance and loan teams.

Nami is an immigrant herself and has empathy for those trying to establish themselves in a new country. She came to Canada as a foreign student and has worked hard to create an outstanding career. But she does remember when finances were tight and how a loan from Windmill could have made a difference.

Now a chartered accountant (CA), Nami has a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies from the University of Western Ontario’s King’s University College.

After graduating, Nami began her finance career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in an audit capacity. She then moved to the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) where she took on roles in audit, financial planning and analysis, and financial reporting. Her goal was to learn as many facets of the finance role as possible. She then joined the CanCap group, as Director of Finance, to explore and build experience in the lending industry. It was this interest that brought her to Windmill. Windmill gave her the opportunity to marry her interest in financial services with her desire to make a difference in the world while also creating a balanced life with her two young children.

What stands out about Nami personally is her big laugh and her easy style of relating. Anyone who doesn’t believe finance people can be the life of the party hasn’t met Nami. And not only is she smart and personable, but she is humble in her knowledge of finance, able to communicate with those lacking financial experience at their own level. When asked to explain complex financial concepts, Nami always approaches these conversations in a humane and supportive way. Her references confirm that she is an honest and transparent individual who is hard-working and dedicated to the organizations she works for. They describe her as smart, a fast learner, ambitious, and with an ability to connect with others. All qualities Windmill was looking for in this important executive function.

We wish Nami success in her role at Windmill and know that she is already making a big impact.
