Jill Blakey, Senior Manager, Major Gifts, Upper Canada College
Jill Blakey will soon join Upper Canada College as their new Senior Manager, Major Gifts, responsible for securing six-figure gifts in support of UCC’s renewed Strategic Directions. Jill spent the last ten years at The Bishop Strachan School (BSS), first directing the alumnae relations team, and later, overseeing major gift activity locally and internationally during BSS’s capital campaign. Jill has a deep and intimate connection with UCC, having grown up on campus, and while it was difficult to leave BSS, this opportunity will allow Jill to further build her major gift skills, share her expertise with a new team, and work on another ambitious campaign from the ground up. Paula Calderon, National Director of Client Success, Windmill Microlending
We are proud to introduce Paula Calderon, the new National Director of Client Success at Windmill Microlending. Windmill offers microloans to help skilled immigrants achieve their Canada designations and improve their overall quality of life as working Canadians. As part of the leadership team, Paula manages a team of staff nationally who’s main goal is to facilitate the success of all loan recipients. Paula comes to Windmill from Access Employment where she was the Director of Services for Peel Region. Originally from Colombia, Paula has first-hand experience being an immigrant in Canada, an asset for both Windmill and the immigrants and refugees she and her team support. Alexander Ray, Manager of Research & Prospect Management, Upper Canada College
Alex has recently joined Upper Canada College as their Manager of Research & Prospect Management. Alex was in charge of research at Havergal College. He was hired by the former Executive Director of Advancement to support their campaign. While Alex had not worked in a fundraising environment prior to Havergal, he stepped in and quickly learned the business of research and started adding value right away. His Masters of Library and Information Science helped him get up to speed quickly. He was described as highly creative in his approach to donor research and prospect identification. Alex not only joined the advancement team but joined many of Havergal’s extracurricular activities, including coaching the girl’s baseball team. He became an integral and valued part of the community. Known for being an overall consistently positive force, people described Alex as the most positive and kind person they had ever met. UCC is excited to have such a positive force on their team.
Carly Schur, Chief Development Officer, Cystic Fibrosis Canada
Carly will be joining Cystic Fibrosis Canada as their new Chief Development Officer. Carly has spent the last 9 years at Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) and Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) working primarily in corporate development. She was a key member of the leadership and integration team when CBCF merged with CCS. Carly led corporate development on a national scale at CCS, building the program to exceed revenue targets by 50% and seamlessly transitioning former CBCF corporate partners into the new organization. Carly will join the leadership team at Cystic Fibrosis Canada with the goal of setting a national fundraising strategy for this $16M charity. Carly impressed everyone with her strategic mindset and her ability to flawlessly execute on large and complex corporate partnerships, leveraging many years of agency experience working with leading global brands. Irfan Siddiqui, Database Manager for Advancement Services, Upper Canada College
Irfan joins Upper Canada College as their new Manager, Database for Advancement Services. Irfan has the exciting opportunity to be the part of the upcoming UCC capital campaign. His role will work closely with the Director, Advancement Operations to develop best practices for data management and to support the fundraising and alumni teams. Irfan comes to Upper Canada College from Pathways to Education Canada where he was supporting marketing, finance, IT and resource development through database management and technology solutions. Prior to his role at Pathways, Irfan worked at Sunnybrook Foundation in donor base development. In a relatively short-time working and living in Canada, Irfan has developed a deep understanding of fundraising technologies and how to support the users who rely on these softwares to fundraise for their organizations. Irfan was known at Pathways as always willing to jump in and support a colleague who needed help. Irfan also has education and experience in Business and Digital Media Marketing. Kyle Winters, Chief Development Officer, NEXT Canada
Kyle joins Next Canada as their new Chief Development Officer, bringing with him a long-standing career in fundraising. Kyle started his career at the University of Toronto and after 25 years left his role as Executive Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations to become the National VP of Corporate Development at the Heart & Stroke Foundation. In 2015 he joined the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, where he served as President and Chef Operating Officer. Kyle has a track-record of building significant corporate partnerships with many Fortune 500 Canadian companies, as well as securing transformative gifts from individual donors. Kyle works closely with Joe Canavan, NEXT Canada’s CEO as well as the Next Canada Board of Directors to develop a strategic fundraising plan and a sustainable philanthropy program in a fast-paced entrepreneurial organization.
